Sarah Sewell was mentioned in the 4 September 1804 will of her mother, Sarah Mann, proved 15 October 1804. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 16, pages 308–309.]

On 11 December 1804, at the request of Joseph Mann, William Blake and Susanna his wife, Sally Sowell wife of Wm. Sowell and in his presence and with his consent, and Peggy Mann, a division of the slaves of Mr. Robert Mann, deceased, was made by Jas. Jones, Wm. Fleet and John Trible. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 16, pages 346–348.]

Sally Sowell was mentioned in the 8 January 1813 will of her sister, Caty Banks, proved on 18 January 1813. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 17, pages 443–444.]

Sarah Sowell was mentioned in the 30 December 1817 will of her nephew, Townley Banks, proved on 16 February 1818. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 18, pages 471–472.]

In the the late 1830s, William G. Mann complained to the Chancery Court in Essex County: Your orator William G. Mann. That his grandfather William Sowell died in ____ intestate leaving a widow Sarah Sowell and two children viz Robert Sowell and Margaret who married Richard Mann. Richard Mann died about 1822 and Margaret died about 1823, leaving your orator and two infant sisters Julia and Margaret Mann. [Essex County, Virginia, Box Chancery No. 39, item 39-L-11.]
