On 11 November 1831, John Trible, Richard H. Harwood, Smith Young, William Smith senr., James Durham, William S. Croxton, Moses Crow, Francis G. W. Smith, Hundley Moody, Mace Clements, Richard T. Hundley and Peter Broocke served in an inquiry on the death of “Thornton, a negro boy slave the property of Addison Glascock”, that “a certain person unknown did kill and murder the said Thornton, by inflicting several blows upon his head”. On 19 March 1832, orators and oratrices James Henry Young, Polly Henry Young Henry Young and Smith Young filed a bill stating that sometime in the year ____ one John Smith as executor of one Henry Young sold land of which your orators and oratrices became the purchasers, supposing it to contain the number of acres claimed. They paid in full $6,876 for 573 acres at $12 per acre. That in the year [torn] your orators having some doubt surveyed the land and discovered it to be no more than 483 acres. Youngs vs Youngs Exor. On 14 February 1833, Traverse Gatewood gave a deposition at Benjamin Blakes store in the County of Essex in the suit between James Henry Young, Polly Henry Young, Henry Young and Smith Young Plaintiffs and John Smith Executor of Henry Young deceased Defendants. That he was present at a conversation between the defendants and the legatees (that is the sons and husbands of the married daughters of Henry Young deceased) on the day of sale of Henry Young’s land. On 2 October 1833, an inventory and appraisal of the estate of Traverse Gatewood was made by Andrew Hundley, James Dunn, and Smith Young. Includes slaves James, Judy, Phebe, Elijah, Maria, Louisa, Charlotte & child Billy, Addison, Lucinda, Rose & child Peggy, Molly afflicted, and Matilda. On 20 February 1837, Smith Young, James Dunn, Andrew Hundley and Richard H Harwood were bound in the sum of $1,000 for Smith Young’s administration of the estate of Henry Young, deceased. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 24, page 98–99.]

On 17 July 1837, Peter Trible, Smith Young and Andrew Hundley were bound in the penalty of $2,100 for Peter Trible’s administration of the estate of Richard H. Covington, deceased. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 24, page 151.]

Orators and oratrices James Trible, Andrew Hundley and Nancy his wife, George M. Trible, Smith Young and Margaret K. his wife, Fielding D. Piggott and Eliza his wife, William R. G. Trible and John S. Trible complained to the Chancery Court. That John Trible the father of your orators and oratrices died on 20 September 1844 also leaving the following other children: Peter and Austin M. Trible, Emily Covington wife of Richard L. Covington, Eliza Kemper, John, Selah, Summerfield, Franklin & Frances Holbrook children of Frances Hollrook, the said Frances being a daughter of John Trible deceased. On 23 February 1859, Smith Young and Margaret R. Young his wife of the first part sold to James A. Dunn, trustee for Olivia Duff, wife of Peter T. Duff of the second part. For $175, the Youngs sell 13 acres, more or less, adjoining the land of James Croxton deceased, it being the same tract Smith Young purchased of John A.
