Thomas L. Latane was mentioned in the 24 June 1808 will of his father, William Latané, proved on 21 October 1811. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 17, pages 312–313.]

On 20 March 1815, Thomas L. Latane and Warner Lewis were bound in the penalty of $4,000 for Thomas L. Latane’s administration of the goods, chattels and credits of Lewis Allen. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 18, page 136.]

On 17 April 1815, Thomas L. Latane, Warner Lewis and Lewis Dix were bound in the penalty of $16,000 for Thomas L. Latane’s administration of the goods, chattels and credits of James Allen, deceased. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 18, page 142–143.]

On 13 and/or 14 November 1834, Thomas L Latane purchased property at the sale of the estate of Major Arthur L. Barnes. [Essex County, Virignia, Will Book 24, pages 12–20.]

The will of Thomas L Latane was dated 14 August 1833. To Sally Nelson Berkeley my negro girl Lucy. To Carter Berkeley (the brother of my dear wife) my old grey mare. To William Henry Berkeley my young grey mare. All the rest of my estate I lend to my beloved wife Mary B Latane during her life, and after her death I give all my estate to my daughter Lucy Robinson Latane, and in the event of my daughter’s dying before she arrives at the age of twenty one years leaving no child I give all my estate to my brother Henry W Latane, my sister Mary Temple and my brother William C Latane to be equally divided. My friend Nelson Berkeley and my brother William C Latane to be executors. Signed Thomas L his x mark Latane. Witnesses: M G Fauntleroy, H W L Temple, C R Berkeley. On 16 October 1837, Nelson Berkeley and Henry W. Latane were bound in the penalty of $30,000 for Nelson Berkeley’s execution of the will of Thomas L. Latane. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 24, pages 200–201.]
