Rainbow Wedding.
LOUISA, VA., Nov. 19.—The social atmosphere of our little city is just at this time considerably stirrid up by the recent “rainbow marriage” of Miss Bertha L. Keene, of Vicksburg, Miss., to Mr. John L. McCue, of Albemarle county, Va.
All things having been pre-arranged with consummate taste and artistic effect, promptly at 8:30 o’clock upon Thursday evening, November 18th, the happy contracting parties and their attendant train assembled at the Trinity Parish Episcopal Chapel at this place in readiness for the joyous event. The chapel, beautifully decorated with a bright profusion of floral designs was already filled by the elite of Louisa to its utmost capacity, and expectation (as usual) was on tip-toe, when suddently upon the cool, still air of evening the melodious strains of Mendelssohn’s Wedding March burst forth from the organ, at which presided Prof. William Rolling[?] of the L. H. S., with his usual solemnity and skill.
This was the agreed signal, and the bridal party entered in the following order:
First came the leading gentlemen ushers, Messrs. P. B. Porter and T. W. Goodwin, followed by Messrs. J. H. Pendleton and N. H.Crawford becomingly attired in black suits with tight silk vests, white lawn ties and tan-colored kid. Then came in regular order the couples. Miss Edna Keene and Mr. Will McCue, Miss Blanch Popham and Mr. A. S. Craven, Miss Kawanna Smith and Mr. David Funsted, Miss Daisy Moon and Dr. W. O. Smith, Miss Linda Fox and Mr. J. A. G. Davis[,] Miss Mamie Porter and Mr. Robert C. Rodes, followed in turn by two little children, Master Leighton Barrett and Miss Mary Moon Winston, strewing flowers along the aisle as they advanced. Last and chief of them all came the bride elect, Miss Bertha L. Keene, arrayed in cream satin, trimmed with point duchess lace, orange blossoms and diamond ornaments, bearing in her hand an exquisite bouquet of Marechal Neil and Pearl roses; presenting to the admiring view of the assembled throng a real vision of female loveliness and beauty.
Having arrived at the chancel, she was met by the groom-elect, who had descended from the vestry-room to receive her; and then, surrounded by a semi-circle of waiters and ushers and amid the soothing influence of music “sweet and low,” an impresive ceremony was performed by the Rev. Dr. Dasheill, of Richmond, Va. The last words of the minister having been uttered, and a touching benediction having been pronounced, the bridal party filed out at the spacious aisle in the reversed order of entrance, and was speedily driven to the bride’s brother-in-law, Dr. R. Lieghton Barrett, where a sumptuous collation awaited them, prepared by the master hand of A. Pizzini, that prince of confectioners, of your city, and congratulations were in order. The festivities, participated in by the bridal party and a select coterie of relatives and friends, were prolonged until two o’clock this morning, and all went as merry as a carnival.
