On 14 August 1833, H W L Temple witnessed the will of Thomas L Latane, and proved the will in court on 16 October 1837. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 24, page 200.]
On 8 January 1844, an inquisition was taken at the house of Wm. S. Croxton in Essex County before Jas: Wright a Justice of the Peace acting as Coroner, upon the view of the body of Sophronia Ann Croxton late of the said County then and there lying dead. Upon the oaths of James Semple, Leond Henley, Henry W L Temple, Amos Cauthorn, Richard L. Covington, William J. Clarkson, Walter G. Covington, James Durham Jr:, George W. Philips, John S. Trible, Richard D. Dunn and Jacob Durham, charged to inquire when, where, how and after what manner the said Sophronia Ann Croxton died, state that she died on the 6th day of January, that she had no marks of violence appearing on her body, and died by the visitation of God a natural way, and not otherwise. On 15 January 1844 ordered to record. (The name Sophronia is misspelled as Sophronai, and underlined, in the document, until correctly spelled on 15 January.)
