Pursuant to an order of court dated 15 December 1800, a division of the slaves of James Banks, deceased, was made on 18 December 1800 by L Booker, James Dix, and John Jones. Lots went to James Banks (Harry, Cate and child Happy, Lewis), Elizabeth B. Allen (John, Milly and child Tunstall, Winney and Janes [?]), and William Banks (Dick, Juno, Hannah, and Massey), so that with adjustments each lot was valued at £217.13.4. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 16, pages 72–73.]

On 19 October 1801, the settlement of Thomas Allen’s executorship of the estate of James Banks, by John Jones, Lewis Dix, Jno. Haile, and James Allen, settled in the presence of Elizabeth B. Allen, William Banks, and James Banks, was ordered to be recorded. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 16, pages 100–101.]

On 15 June 1801, the estate of James Banks, deceased, in account with executor James Banks, Jr., was settled by John Jones, Lewis Dix, Jno. Haile, and James Allen, with transactions in 1785 and 1800. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 16, pages 101–102.]
