Edward Brown was mentioned in the 23 March 1808 will of his father, Merriday Brown, proved 19 December 1808. To Edward Brown sixty acres of land as formerly laid off by William Jones. To sons Edward, Daniel, and Lewis, and to daughter Polly, to be equally divided among them, all my negroes excepting the negroe girl Nan, but it is to be understood that a negroe girl I formerly gave to my son Edward named Dinah and a negro girl named Mary which I formerly gave to my son Daniel shall be considered apart of the aforesaid slaves. On 30 December 1808, the slaves of the estate of Merriday Brown were divided into four equal lots, to Polly Browne, Edward B Browne, Lewis Browne, and Danl. Browne. Ordered recorded 16 July 1810. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 17, page 204.]
The will of Edward B. Brown was dated 29 June 1818. To my wife all my estate of every sort and kind during her lifetime or as long as she continues my widow. After that time, all estate except my land to be divided equally amongst my three children, Nancy Munday, Merriday & Joseph Berry Brown. But as I have given a Negroe Girl to my Daughter, her value be charged to her in the distribution of the estate. Land to be divided between my two sons Meriday & Joseph Berry. To daughter a Negroe Boy named Anderson in lieu of land. Brother Lewis Brown to be exeuctor with my wife executrix. Signed Edward B his + mark Brown. Witnesses: James Hunter, Jno Matthews, Benjamin Coghill. Proved 16 November 1818. Elizabeth Brown the widow renounced her right of executrixship. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 19, pages 12–13.]
On 16 November 1818, Daniel Brown and Thomas Oneale were bound in the penalty of $6,000 for Daniel Brown’s administration with the will annexed of the estate of Edward B Brown, deceased. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 19, page 13.]
On 29 January 1819, an inventory and appraisal of the Negroes and other personal estate of Edward B. Brown, deceased, was made by D. W Pitts, John Beazley, and Jas L Cox. Included Negro woman Nelly, Negroe man Adam, Girl Ellenor, Boy Sam, Girl Edy, and Boy Anderson. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 19, pages 25–26.]
