The will of William G. Crittenden of the County of Essex and State of Virginia was dated 25 January 1830. My wife to keep together and support and educate all my children as far as she may have it in her person. I lend to my wife the plantation whereon I now reside, and after her death it is to be sold, the money arising therefrom to be equally divided amongst all my children. After the death of Mrs. Mary Thomas, all interest I have in her estate to be divided equally among my children. Friend Washington H. Purkins to be executor. Signed William G. Crittenden. On 15 February 1830, Washington H. Purkins and Samuel Williamson were bound in the penalty of $400 for Washington H. Purkins’s adminsitration with the will annexed of William G. Crittenden, deceased. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 22, page 78.]
