On 1 October 1806, Gabriel Purkins witnessed the will of Mace Clements, and proved the will in court on 16 February 1807. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 17, page 7.]
On 21 February 1815, Winter Bray and Thomas Pilcher were bound in the penalty of $3,000 for Winter Bray’s administration of the goods, chattels and credits of Gabriel Purkins, deceased. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 18, pages 122–123.]
On 20 November 1815, an inventory and appraisal of the estate of Gabriel Purkins jr was submitted by William Howerton, Troyman Greenwood and James Dunn. Ordered 27 February 1815, recorded 18 December 1815. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 18, pages 236–237.]
The estate of Gabriel Purkins was in account with Winter Bray from 1815 to 1818. Includes payment for board & washing & nurse for Daughter Mary in 1815. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 19, pages 57–58.] A dower payment to Susanna Gordon, widow of Gabriel, was made in 1819. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 19, page 58.]
In an undated petition, orators and oratrices Elizabeth Foster, Ewen Clements and Sally his wife, Mary Purkins an infant under 21 only child of Gabriel Purkins deceased by Thomas Pilcher her next friend, Henry and Sally Perkins infants and only children of George Perkins by Winter Bray, Thomas Perkins, Carter Perkins, Harry Perkins, Jesse Perkins, James Perkins and William Perkins complained that William Perkins died in 1815 intestate. Your orators and oratrices are his children and grandchildren. That Elizabeth Foster, Ewen Clements and Sally his wife, Mary Perkins, Thomas Perkins, Carter Perkins, Harry Perkins, Jesse Perkins, James Perkins and William Perkins are each entitled to 1/10th share.
