David W. Pitts was mentioned in the 2 April 1829 will of his mother, Sarah Pitts, proved 18 May 1829. After other bequests, the rest of estate to son David W. Pitts, he to pay debts and legacies. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 21, pages 371–372.]
The will of D W Pitts was dated 17 June 1834. Whatever Mrs Grace F Hunter owes me, I leave to her daughter Fenton Hunter. Whatever Thomas D Pitts owes me I leave to him. I give to R L Pitts, S D Pitts & Dandridge P Sale one thousand Dollars each. I give to Wm A Wright, Edward Wright, David P Wright, Salley Ellis, Johnson W Pitts, Leonard P Sale, Mary L Sale five hundred Dollars each. I give to Sister Sale, Sister Oneale, five hundred Dollars each. I give to R M T Hunter one thousand Dollars. The balance of my Estate I leave to my Brother B D Pitts to him and his heirs forever. On 17 July 1837, Bevan D. Pitts, Reuben L. Pitts, Edward Wright, Wm. A. Wright, Albert G. Oneale, Lineus C. Gatewood, and David P. Wright were bound in the penalty of $150,000 for Bevan D. Pitts’s administration with the will annexed of the estate of David W. Pitts, deceased. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 24, page 140.]
