The will of Sally Smether was dated 26 November 1829. Son William B. Smether. Daughter Sally N. Smether. Sons Lewis E. Smether, Ryburn M. Smether, Joseph E. Smither and daughter Martha M. Smether. Additional bequests to Caty V. Griffin, George K. Smether, Winslow B. Smether, and Lucy G. Samuel whose husband is Zachariah Samuel, all of whom seem to be additional children. Signed Sally her mark Smether. Witnesses: Tho: Hill, W: B Smether. Proved 21 December 1829. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 22, pages 36–37.]

On 21 December 1829, Winslow B. Smether and Robert Hill were bound in the penalty of $200 for Winslow B. Smether’s administration of the estate of Sally Smether, deceased. (The name is spelled both Smether and Smither in the document, and Winslow signed Smether.) [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 22, pages 37–38.]

The estate of Sally Smither, deceased, in account with Winslow B Smither, adminsitrator, for 1830 was ordered recorded 20 February 1832. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 22, pages 385–386.]

The estate of Sallly Smither, deceased, in account with Robert Hill deputy for Jas. Semple late Sheriff of Essex and committee administrator from 1842 to 1843 was ordered recorded on 18 March 1844. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 25, pages 228–229.]
