James C. Croxton was mentioned in the 1 January 1858 will of his father, Carter Croxton, proved 28 June 1858. I give to my three sons James C. Croxton, Richard A. Croxton and William H. Croxton my farm, and my three daughters, Elizabeth C. Croxton, Mildred A. Croxton and Sarah L. Croxton, to remain on the farm I now reside as a home for them so long as they remain unmarried. To son James C. Croxton negro man Hiram and negro girl Lucelia. In the event of death or marriage of my wife, personal estate to be divided between my six children. On 24 October 1859, Lewis A. L. Lamkin qualified as guardian to Richard A. Croxton, William H. Croxton, and Sarah L. Croxton, orphans of Carter Croxton, deceased. James C. Croxton and Mildred A. Croxton, orphans of Carter Croxton, made choice of Lewis A. L. Lamkin as their guardian. On this same date, Lewis A. L.
