On 28 May 1747, an inventory and appraisal of the estate of Daniel Brown, made by Marttin Nalle, Richard Nalle, and James Tult(?) was returned to court and ordered to be recorded. [Orange County, Virginia, Will Book 1, pages 108–109.]

The will of Martin Nalle was dated 9 March 1783. Weak and low in health but of sound & Disposing Memory. To my Beloved wife Isabell the third part of my Estate During her Life or Widowhood & after Decease or second marriage that part of my Estate to be sold and the money to be Equally Divided among my Children namely William Nalle, Martin, Ann, Rachel, Winney & Clary Milly & my Grand Daughter Caley Parks. To son William Nalle Fifty pounds Specie to buy him a negro which sum he is to account for in the General Division of my estate. To Daughter Ann my Negro boy Jack which she is to Account for his Value in the General Division. To Daughter Rachel my Negro Bell already Delivered to her which she is to account for in the General Division but not her Increase. To son Martin my Negro King which he is not to account for in the General Division of my Estate. To Daughter Clarey my negro Beck which she is to account for in the General Division but not her Increase. To Daughter Winny my Negro George which she is to account for in the General Division of my Estate. To my Daughter Milly my negro mars which she is to account for in the General Division. To Gran Daughter Catey Parks the Eight part of my Estate arising from all other Families. The balance of my estate both Real and Personal is to be Advertised in the Virginia, Maryland and Pensylvania Gazettes Four months before the day of Sale and to be sold to the Highest Bidder and the Money arising from ye said Sale to be Equally Divided among my Seven Children and my Gran Daughter above mentioned, if my Gran Daughter Caty Parks should die Without heir that that [sic] part of Estate to Return to Mary Holloday [blank] other Children, [blank]. Beloved wife Isabell and sons William & Martin Nalle & my son in Law Humphrey Sparks to be Executrix and Executors. Signed Martin Nalle. Witnesses: Richard Parks, William Purvis, John Tutt. Codicil of the same date. I give to John Sanders all that part of my Estate above willed to his late wife Winifred for the use of my, His [sic] Children by my daughter Winny.
