Thos. W. Boughan married Mary E. Taylor on 18 February 1869 in Essex County. He was 20, single (not widowed), born in Essex County, living in Essex County. She was 21, single (not widowed), born in Essex County, living in Essex County. Parents were listed as Thomas Baynham [sic] and Mary F. Wood, and George Taylor and Nancy Beazley. Thos. W. She has not been located in the 1870 census. Her husband, Thomas Wood Boughan, is living with his father. A “Frances” Boughan is living in that household, and could be Mary Ellen Taylor.

On 2 March 1898, a deed was made between Lucinda C. Johnson, Martha E. Crow, Ann E. Jordon, Mary E. Boughan, James A. Taylor, Georgianna Boughan, John W. Verlander, Elizabeth F. Boughan, and James H. Verlander of the first part, and Christian Mallory Dietrich of the second part. For $500, the parties of the first part grant unto the parties of the second part a tract of land which the late Henry Beazley died seized and possessed, lying on the right hand side of the road leading from Henley’s Ford to Mount Zion Church, containing 174 acres. Signed Lucinda C. Johnson, Martha E. Crow, Bettie Jordon, Mary E. Boughan, James A. Taylor, Georgianna Boughan, J. W. Verlander, Elizabeth F. Boughan, and J. H. Verlander. Recorded 27 October 1898. On 20 May 1898, Mary E. Boughan, wife of T. W. Boughan, purchased 10 acres of land for $50 from Lawrence Casselman and Mollie Casselman his wife, “lying next to Lewis Level farm commencing on Main Road running from Indian Neck to Dunbrook being two acres wide and five deep.” Signed Lawrence Casselman, Mollie Casselman, recorded 5 May 1898. On 1 February 1938 in the Jamaica District of Middlesex County, Mary Ellen Boughan died. She was female, white, widowed, widow of Thomas Boughan, born 26 October 1847, age 90 years, 3 months, occupation at home, born in Essex County, Virginia. Father was George Taylor, born in Essex County, Virginia; mother was Ann Beazley, born in Essex County, Virginia. Informant was Roland Boughan of Essex County, Virginia. Burial on 3 February 1938 at Ephesus. Attended by physician from 1 January 1938 to 30 January 1938, cause of death mitral lesion, no autopsy. [Certificate of Death, Commonwealth of Virginia, 4475.]

An obituary reads [paper unknown, probably the Rappahannock Times, no date]: Mrs. Mary Ellen Boughan Whereas it has pleased out Heavenly Father to take from our midst, our sister Mrs. Mary Ellen Boughan, ¶Resolved, That in the death of Mrs. Boughan, we, the members of the Woman’s Missionary Society of Glebe Landing Church, have lost a friend and co-laborer. But our loss is her gain, and her consecrated life is an example to us; ¶Resolved, also, That we express to the loved ons [sic] of this, our sister, our sincere sympathy, and that a copy of this tribute be sent to the Rappahannock Times for publication. [Signed] Miss Helen Sadler, Mrs. Band Abrams, Committee.

She is buried at Ephesus Baptist Church at Dunnsville, Virginia. There is a four-grave headstone marked Boughan that has Father Thomas, 1848-1921; Mother Mary, 1847-1938; Husband Roland, 1872-1945; and Wife Florence, 1876-1946.
