A Carl Thomas arrived in Baltimore, Maryland, on the ship Hermann, bound from Prussia to the United States. He was 25, a male workman, traveling alone in steerage class with one piece of baggage. [National Archives, Microfilm M255, Reel 41.]

Charles Thomas married Catherine Schneider on 18 August 1895 in Baltimore City, Maryland. He was 33, white, single, resident of Baltimore; she was 25, white, single, resident of Baltimore. The license was issued on 15 August 1895. The minister was A. Fred Steiger, who filed his certificate on 6 November 1895. After Carl Thomas married Catherine Schneider, he wrote home to his family in Germany to say he had “married the devil’s daughter.” [Told to Thomas Moore by Irene Moore.]
