On 29 June 1829, Beckwith Butler and Samuel Davis were bound for the marriage of Beckwith Butler and Elizabeth Smoote. [Westmoreland County, Virginia, Marriage Bonds Volume 10, item 29-27.]
On 17 September 1838, Elizabeth McGuire sold to Beckwith Butler, both of the County of Westmoreland and State of Virginia. For $40, a tract in the County of Westmoreland and State of Virginia, Beginning at a corner stone being the corner stone of the land of Emily McGuire and Beckwith Butler thence a straight line to a corner chestnut of the land of William Sutton & Samuel S Davis Thence up the main road until it intersects with the Land of Said Butler containing by Estimation Ten acres. On 8 June 1841, William Sutton and Tracy N. Sutton his wife sold to Beckwith Butler, all of the State of Virginia and County of Westmoreland. For $256.87-1/2, a tract in Cople Parish bordering land of the said Wm Sutton, Friar Sutton and Saml. Davis &c. Signed Wm Sutton, Tracy N her x mark Sutton. No witnesses. On 24 March 1845, Beckwith Butler and Elizabeth his wife sold to Friar Sutton, all of the County of Westmoreland. For $126.25, a parcel of 52 acres, part of the land Beckwith Butler purchased of William Sutton. Signed Beckwith his x mark Butler, Elizabeth her x mark Butler. No witnesses. On 28 February 1853, the widow of Beckwith Butler relinquished her right to qualify as administratrix. Robert W. Yeatman entered into a bond of $100 with William W. He is listed as the father of his son Oscar in Oscar’s marriage to Emeline Davis. The name in the marriage register is very difficult to read.
