In an undated petition, Thomas Hunley, Larkin Hunley, Austin Hunley, Elizabeth Hunley, Edwin Hunley, Andrew Hunley and Nancy Hunley, the said Larkin, Austin, Elizabeth, Edwin, Andrew and Nancy infants under the age of 21 by Elizabeth their next friend and in her own right, complained that Thomas Hunley died on ____ 1815 intestate leaving a widow Elizabeth and eight children, your orators and oratrices and George M. Hunely who is the administrator. [Throughout the petition, the name Hunley was originally Hundley, but all the Ds have been crossed through.] [Essex County, Virginia, Box Chancery No. 36, item 36-I-16.]

In 1820, Larkin Hunley was taxed for one white male above the age 16. [Essex County, Virginia, 1820 Personal Property Tax Book.]

In about 1820, orators and oratrices Geo: M. Hundley, Larkin Hundley, Charles Layton and Betsey his wife who was Betsey Hundley, Austin Hundley, and Andrew Hundley, Edwin Hundley and Nancy Hundley infants by Geo: M. Hundley their next friend complained to the Chancery Court. That Thomas Hundley the father of your orators and oratrices, and also of Thomas Hundley, died some years ago. His widow Elizabeth recently died. From about 1820. [Essex County, Virginia, Box Chancery No. 42, item 42-J-18.]

On December 30 1825, a final division of the estate of Elizabeth Hundley was made. “Received of Thomas Hundley admr of Elizabeth Hundley decd the sum One hundred and thirteen dollars & four & 1/4 cents it being the amount due to each of us from said Thomas Hundley as the admr of the said Elizabeth Hundley decd and is in full for his administration on said Estate” Signed Geo: M Hundley, Austin Hundley, Charles G Layton, Edwin Hundley, Andrew Hundley, Robt Mackan, Larkin Hundley. Witnesses: Thomas Hundley, Jno: Downey, Cyrus Segar, Thomas Jesse jr. Ordered recorded on 18 June 1827. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 21, page 125.]

In an undated petition, probably from the early 1830s, orator and oratrices William, Julia and Margarete Mann infant children of Richard Mann decd who sue by Larkin Hunley their next friend, complained that on a division of the estate of Philip Mann their grandfather 29 acres were assigned to them in right of their father Richard Mann. [Essex County, Virginia, Box Chancery No. 43, item 43-H-29.]

On 18 March 1833, Larkin Hundley and Jones C. Clopton as justices of the peace for Essex County took the depositions of Alexander S. Boughton, John Williams and Orville Jeffries. [Essex County, Virginia, Box Chancery No. 45, item 45-J-27.]

On 21 July 1834, Larkin Hundley and Andrew Hundley were bound in the penalty of $400 for Larkin Hundley’s administration with the last will and testament annexed of the estate of Lydia Alexander. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 23, page 287.]

The estate of Lydia Alexander, deceased, in account with Larkin Hundley, administrator, for 1834 was ordered recorded on 20 July 1835. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 23, pages 387–388.]

On 14 June 1836, an inquisition held before Larkin Hundley, justice of the peace, was taken at William Steward’s in Essex County upon the view of the body of William Goode of the county aforesaid, and upon the oath of Nancy Stewart she states that William Goode, not having God before his eyes, but being seduced and moved by the instigation of the Devil, at William Stewart’s spring in the county, did shoot himself voluntarily and feloniously, as a felon of himself, killed and murdered against the peace and dignity of the Commonwealth. Jury: Geo W Shelton, James Dyke, Banks Garrett[?], Thomas Hundley, Henry Johnson, M L L [?] Dyke, F S Mitchell, John Johnson, Leroy Cauthorn, Absalom Cloudas, John Dunn, and Edmond Goode. On 17 April 1837, Ythel M Parry, Larkin Hundley and Wm L Gatewood were bound in the penalty of $5,000 for Ythel M Parry’s administration of the estate of Bejamin Hundley, deceased. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 24, page 112.]

On 17 April 1837, Ythel M Parry and Larkin Hundley were bound in the penalty of $6,000. Ythel M Parry is appointed by the County Court of Essex to collect and preserve the goods, chattles and credits of Lucy Hundley decd during the contest about the nuncupative Will of the said Lucy Hundley decd or until the further order of the Court. On 19 June 1837, Larkin Hundley, Andrew Hundley, and Wm. Oliver were bound in the penalty of $10,000 for Larkin Hundley’s administration of the estate of Edwin Hundley. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 24, page 138.]

The estate of Edwin Hundley in account with Larkin Hundley, administrator, from 1837 to 1839 was ordered recorded on 18 February 1839. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 24, pages 354–357.]

On 9 July 1839, an inventory and appraisal of the estate of Frances Street was made by Larkin Hundley, Thos B Garnett, and Lewis B Montague. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 24, page 411.]

On 16 March 1840, Larkin Hundley and Andrew Hundley were bound in the penalty of $2,000 for Larkin Hundley’s administration of the estate of an infant child of Robert Dobbins deceased who died unnamed. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 24, page 450.]

On 15 June 1840, Larkin Hundley and Henry Johnson were bound in the penalty of $300 for Larkin Hundley’s administration of the estate of Edmund Goode, deceased. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 24, pages 487–488.]

A letter dated 12 April 1841 from Mary E. Bohannon (who signed her name) to William A. Wright (but the outside of the letter being addressed to Mr Larkin Hundley, Montagues, Essex County Va.) seems to have been sent from Mathews C. H. Va. [Essex County, Virginia, Box Chancery No. 40, item 40-A-9.]

On 19 Apri 1841, Larkin Hundley and George W Shelton were bound $500 for Larkin Hundley’s administration of the estate of Sophronia Hundley, deceased. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 24, page 590.]

On 7 September 1842, Larkin Hundley complained to the Circuit Superior Court of Law and Chancery for Essex County that Stephen D. Pitts is in debt to him and is outside the commonwealth. That Reuben L. Pitts as executor of Thomas Pitts has in his possession property from the estate of Thomas Pitts in which Stephen D. Pitts has an interest in right of his wife Anne, daughter of Thomas Pitts. Filed as Hundley vs Pitts on 7 September 1842. [Essex County, Virginia, Box Chancery No. 51, item 51-I-20.]

On 4 January 1843, Reuben L. Pitts answered a bill of Larkin Hundley. He has in his possession Catharine and Nessee. Others have also filed bills against him. Dated 4 January 1843. [Essex County, Virginia, Box Chancery No. 51, item 51-I-11.]

From 1843 to 1848, Larkin Hundley served as trustee for James Dunn and Susan his wife who was Susan Mullins. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 26, pages 28–31 and 442–445.]

On 18 June 1849, Thomas J. Hundley and Larkin Hundley were bound $1,500 for Thomas J. Hundley’s administration of the goods, chattles and credits of Virginia F. Dunn. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 26, pages 454–455.]
