William C. Gatewood was mentioned in the 30 March 1830 will of his father, Philip P. Gatewood. She was to receive one small gun and one silver watch. Proved 19 July 1830. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 22, page 116.]
In about 1840, Susan Gatewood complained the the Chancery Court in Essex County: oratrix Susan Gatewood infant by William J. Clarkson her next friend. That her father Philip Gatewood died many years ago leaving your oratrix and children Anne and William and a widow Fanny. Anne and William both died intestate and without issue.
