Frances Gatewood was mentioned in the 30 March 1830 will of her husband, Philip P. Gatewood. She was to serve as executrix. Proved 19 July 1830. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 22, page 116.]

On 19 July 1830, Frances Gatewood renounced her right to serve as executrix of the estate of her deceased husband, Philip P. Gatewood. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 22, pages 117–118.]

In about 1840, Susan Gatewood complained the the Chancery Court in Essex County: oratrix Susan Gatewood infant by William J. Clarkson her next friend. That her father Philip Gatewood died many years ago leaving your oratrix and children Anne and William and a widow Fanny. Anne and William both died intestate and without issue.
