An undated petition by orator John Richards states that Richard Gatewood died about 1760 leaving Robert Cole and Frances his wife, William Gatewood, Richard Tyler and Catharine his wife, Henry Allen & Frances his wife, Philemon Gatewood, Annie Gatewood & Elizabeth Gatewood by William Gatewood their next friend. The will of Richard Tyler of St. Margaret’s Parish, Caroline County, was dated 22 August 1777 and proved on 14 December 1802. Sword and belt to John Tyler, son of William Tyler. Wife Catharine Tyler. Executors: William Tyler, George Tyler, George Terrell and John Tyler. Witnesses: William Higgin, Jr., Moses Higgin and W. Riggin. At the probate, the three witnesses resided outside the state and Henry Chiles and Richard K. Tyler acted as witnesses. [Hopkins, William Lindsay.
