On 14 February 1833, Traverse Gatewood gave a deposition at Benjamin Blakes store in the County of Essex in the suit between James Henry Young, Polly Henry Young, Henry Young and Smith Young Plaintiffs and John Smith Executor of Henry Young deceased Defendants. That he was present at a conversation between the defendants and the legatees (that is the sons and husbands of the married daughters of Henry Young deceased) on the day of sale of Henry Young’s land. The will of Traverse Gatewood was dated 3 July 1833. Perishable part of my estate to be sold to pay for just debts and funeral expenses. I loan to beloved wife Nancy Gatewood all estate real and personal as long as she remains my widow. After her death, land to be sold upon two payments, one half cash and one half in twelve months. After money from land is due, estate to be equally divided between my surviving children. As soon as my sons receive their education, they shall be put to some mechanical trade. Friends Kemp Gatewood and Orville Jeffries to be executors. Signed Traverse Gatewood. Witnesses: J. C. Clopton, Geo McTrible, James W. Cauthorn. Proved on 16 September 1833.
