On 20 November 1732, an additional inventory of the estate of William Dunn was made by Joseph Man and William Gatewood. Recorded 21 November 1732. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 5, page 114.]

William Gatewood was mentioned in the 1743 will of his father William Gatewood. The younger William was to receive all his father’s land. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 7, pages 84–86.]

On 4 December 1755, William Gatewood cast a vote for Colonel William Daingerfield for burgess of Essex County. [Essex County, Virginia, Deed Book 27, pages 248–252.]

On 29 May 1788, William Gatewood of lawfull age provided a deposition regarding some sick slaves. [Essex County, Virginia, Box Chancery No. 5 item 5-G-10.]

On 19 September 1797, William Gatewood of the parish of south farnham and County of Essex sold to Thomas Wood. A tract sold at auction on 26 January 1797, for £550.0.01, acquired by William Gatewood in a deed of trust from Lewis Deneuf Germain, 267-1/2 acres more or less. Signed William Gatewood.
