John Croxton was mentioned in the 31 July 1775 will of his father John Croxton. He was to receive £40 from his brother Carter Croxton when he came of age. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 13, pages 32–33.]

On 12 July 1806, a John Croxton of lawful age made an affidavit at the house of Major Boughan in the suit of William Newbill admr of Agrippa Dogins decd plt & Major Boughan deft. Re a debt. [Essex County, Virginia, Box Chancery No. 28, item 28-E-20.]

On 20 July 1807, Carter Croxton, William Croxton senr. and James Webb were bound in the penalty of $6,000 for Carter Croxton’s administration of the goods, chattels and credits of John Croxton Junr. deceased. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 17, pages 23–24.]

On 24 and 25 October 1807, an inventory and appraisal of the estate of John Croxton Junr, deceased, was made by F. Smith, Jno. Dunn and Abraham Williams. Ordered recorded 15 June 1812. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 17, pages 367–369.]

On 15 July 1811, pursuant to an order of court dated 19 March 1811, the slaves and lands belonging to the estate of John Croxton, Junior, were divided by Tho. Brockenbrough, Th: Jones, and Francis Smith, to Mrs. Milly Croxton (for her dower), Susanna Croxton, Catharine Croxton, and Mary Ann Bray. At court of 17 June 1817, these reports, made up in pursuance of a decree dated 19 March 1811 in a suit in chancery in which Winter Bray and Mary Ann his wife were plaintiffs, and Milly Croxton, and Catharine and Susanna Croxton, infants under the age of 21 by Milly Croxon their guardian, were defendants, were ordered recorded. On 16 June 1817, James Croxton Jr., John Minter, and Thomas Crow were bound in the penalty of $15,000 for James Croxton’s administration of the estate of John Croxton, deceased. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 18, pages 393–394.]

The estate of John Croxton, Jr., deceased, in account with Carter Croxton, administrator from 1807 to 1820 was settled on 20 July 1820. On 13 July 1821, Winter Bray, P. J. Derieux, and Charles Bray acknowledged receipt of equal shares of the estate of John Croxton deceased from Carter Croxton. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 19, pages 221–233.]
