Charles C. Smith was mentioned in the 3 June 1828 will of his grandfather, John Dunn, proved 15 September 1828. To my grandson Charles C. Smith the balance of the land which I now hold that I received from my Fathers Estate, together with the mill seat attached thereto, and all appurtenances. On 2 January 1830, John Smith, John H. Smith and Charles C. Smith entered into a bond of $2,102 payable to Peter J. Derieux, adminsitrator with the will annexed of John Dunn deceased. Whereas Peter Derieux has delivered to John Smith, in right of his wife Polly Smith, as a legatee under the will of John Dunn, her proportion of the slaves of John Dunn — Dick, Hannah and child, Cyrus, James, Susanna, William and Fanny — and whereas claims against John Dunn may hereafter be brought against Peter J. Derieux, and if the estate should not be sufficient to pay those claims, then John Smith, John H. Smith and Charles C. Smith shall refund to Peter J. Derieux sufficient money to satisfy the claim. Allen an infant of William R. Allen and Drusilla by his father and next friend, Cordelia Dunn another daughter of James Dunn, and Dorinda M. Dunn another daughter of James Dunn an infant who sued by James A. Dunn her next friend, complained that James Dunn died about __ January 1843, testate. For division of his estate. Charles C Smith was mentioned in the 7 June 1847 will of his aunt, Letty Dunn, proved 17 January 1848. 1st I give to Anne E Croxton daughter of William S Croxton a negro woman named Emily and her two children Frances Ann & Margaret Ella, a woman Dicy and her child Betty, negro woman Ophelia & man William Hoomes, with the increase of the females, the bed and furniture standing in my chamber room, six silver spoons maked I C D and on half of the plantation on which I reside, subject to the Conditions herein after expressed— 2nd — I give to Polly Croxton another daughter of the said William S Croxton, eight negro boys named Henry Banks, James Harvey, Lewis, Ambrose, William Andrew, Lawrence and Booker, my family Bible, and the remaining half of my plantation on which I reside to be equally divided between her and her sister Anne E, subject to the following conditions and reservations in: that if either the said Anne E or the said Polly shall die unmarried, and without leaving a child or children, then then all the property herein before given to them; shall pass over, and be equally divided amongst my nephews Charles C. The estate of James Dunn, deceased, in account with James A. Dunn, admor de bonis non with the Will annexed, from 1851 to 1852 was ordered recorded on 20 December 1852. On 1 July 1852, a balance of $210.41 shows a division in seven equal parts to: Chas C. Smith & wife, Peter T. Duff & wife, John. J. Cauthorn & wife, children of Thos. Parron decd., Cordelia Dunn, A. On 14 August 1856, Charles C. Smith and Elima his wife of the County of Spotsylvania sold to Thomas Boughan of the County of Essex. For $1,550, all right title and interest in a parcel in Essex County called Springfield except one hundred acres conveyed to deed dated 1 August 1856 to Temple Brizendine, bounded by the lands of Geo: Hill, Robert Lumpkin, Mrs Catharine Micou, Miss Betsy Walden and the main road leading from Howertons church to Tappahannock, 175 acres by survey. In 1865, orators and oratrices Charles C. Smith and Emily C. his wife, Peter T. Duff and Olivia Duff his wife, Christopher Newbill and Mary Newbill his wife, Dorinda M. Cauthorn, Arthur F. Allen, James W. Parron, Lucy E. Parron, Cordelia Dunn and Edwin Hundley complained to the Chancery Court. That James W. Dunn died in 1864 intestate unmarried leaving Emily, Olivia, Mary, Dorinda, Cordelia all 1/2 sisters, James A. Dunn and Edwin Hundley 1/2 brothers, and Arthur F. Allen son of a 1/2 sister, James W.
