The will of Sebell Carlton of Essex County was dated 15 February 1769. Sick and weak. To Grand daughters the daughters of my daughter Anne Hardee, £30 current money to be divided among them when the come to the age of 18 or marry. But in case Curtis Hardee should take that 50 acres of Land away from Benjamin Deen that I sold him, then the above money is to go to the said Deen. Negro Hannah is to go to Grand daughters the daughters of my daughter Catharine Street to be equally divided among them when the youngest comes to the age of 18 or marries. I discharge my son-in-law Henry Street from all debts he may owe me. All the remainder of the estate to be divided between my grandchildren. My daughters to be executrix with her husband Henry Street executor. Signed Sebell her X mark Carlton L.S. Witnesses: Richard Street, Joseph Patterson. On 19 June 1769, presented in court by Henry Street and proved by the witnesses. Certificate granted Henry Street for obtaining a probate. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 12, pages 365–366.]
