ENGAGED — Mr. and Mrs. Joseph W. C. Gray Jr., near Ellicott City, announce the engagement of their daughter, Mary Gayle, to Robert Frederick Miller, son of Mrs. John William Miller, Westminster, and the late Lt. Miller. Miss Gray, a graduate of Howard High School, is a junior at Union Memorial School of Nursing. Her finance [sic] is a graduate of Westminster Senior High School and is a junior at Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, majoring in engineering-physics. A late spring wedding is planned. On Friday, 13 January 2006, an obituary in the Star-Ledger (New Jersey) stated:
Robert F. Miller, physicist with NASA, Army and Navy, 61
A service for Robert F. Miller, 61, of Farmingdale will be at 10 a.m. tomorrow in the First United Methodist Church of Farmingdale, 8 Main St., after the funeral from the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Rd., Freehold Township.
Mr. Miller died Wednesday in Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch.
A physicist, Mr. Miller began his career working for NASA during the moon walk era and then at Naval Intelligence until being transferred to the Department of Army in Japan.
Mr. Miller then was assigned to the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency in Virginia, where he worked until retiring from the Department of the Army, based out of Fort Monmouth.
After retiring, he consulted for the North Carolina Micro Electronics Computing and Networking Center.
Mr. Miller was a graduate of Johns Hopkins University in Maryland and a member of its alumni association.
He was a former board member of the Society for Information Display and a lay speaker at the First United Methodist Church.
Born in Salisbury, Md., he lived in Rockville, Md., and Japan before moving to Farmingdale in 1985.
Surviving are Joan, his wife of 14 years; a son, Michael; daughters, Michelle Sonnier and Jeanette Picciani; a stepson, Paul Picciani; a stepdaughter, Carolyn Picciani; a brother, Stephen; a sister, Judy Hoff, and a grandchild.
