On 20 July 1802, Robert Payne Waring and Lawrence Muse entered into a bond in the penalty of $5,000 for Robert P. Waring’s administration of the goods, chattels and credits of John Latane, deceased. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 16, page 153.]
John Latane was mentioned, apparently as deceased, in the 24 June 1808 will of his father, William Latané, proved on 21 October 1811. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 17, pages 312–313.]
On 16 April 1810, an inventory and appraisal of the estate of John Latane by Iverson Lewis and Thomas Sears was returned to court and ordered recorded. Includes slaves “Mall and Whittey her child for Mrs. Sarah Bridges life”. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 17, pages 156–157.]
