William was mentioned in the 1 May 1787 will of his father, James Boughan, proved 18 July 1791. Item I lend all my parsonable Estate to my beloved wife Amy Boughan as long as she shall live and at her death to be devised amongst all my Children William Boughan Elisabeth Boughan Mary Boughan & Ann Bohannan to be Equally devided between them. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 14, pages 251–252.]

On 25 May 1791, William Boughan was summoned to appear before the Justices of the County Court of Essex on the third Monday in June next to answer the petition of Thaddeus Williams and Beverley Roy, executors &c. of John Corrie. A note on the folded summons states, “Memo. The within Wm Boughan is son of old James Boughan”. [Essex County, Virginia, Loose Papers, Library of Virginia.]

On 31 December 1793, William Boughan witnessed a deed from Bennoi Bohannon and Mary his wife of the County of Essex and Parish of Southfarnham to Thomas Bohannon of the County of King and Queen. Signed William his x mark Boughn. [Essex County, Virginia, Deed Book 34, pages 49–51.]

On 16 June 1794, William Boughan witnessed a deed from Thomas Bohannon & Ann his wife of the County of King and Queen to George Rose of the County of Essex. Signed Wm Boughan. [Essex County, Virginia, Deed Book 34, pages 55–56.]
