Mace Clements was mentioned in the 1 October 1806 will of his father, Mace Clements, proved 16 February 1807, although as an unborn child. “If the child my wife now goes with shall be a boy, I give to him all my lands in Essex County and also all my slaves except two hereafter mentioned. If the child shall be a boy, he shall pay to my daughter Mary one thousand pounds current money of Virginia, upon her arriving at the age of 21 or upon marriage … All the rest of my land on Green River in the State of Kentuckka and my Land in the north West Teritory near Sime Stone [?] to my son if the child my wife goes with shall be a boy … If the child my wife goes with shall be a girl, instead of a Boy that after my wife’s death or intermarriage my whole estate excepting legacies before mentioned be equally divided between my two daughters.” [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 17, page 7.]

On 11 November 1831, John Trible, Richard H. Harwood, Smith Young, William Smith senr., James Durham, William S. Croxton, Moses Crow, Francis G. W. Smith, Hundley Moody, Mace Clements, Richard T. Hundley and Peter Broocke served in an inquiry on the death of “Thornton, a negro boy slave the property of Addison Glascock”, that “a certain person unknown did kill and murder the said Thornton, by inflicting several blows upon his head”. Mace Clements was mentioned in the 22 September 1835 will of his mother, Elizabeth Foster, proved 17 October 1836. He was to receive the entire estate and serve as executor. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 24, page 71.]

On 17 October 1835, Mace Clements and Henry W Latané were bound in the penalty of $20,000 for Mace Clements’s execution of the will of Elizabeth Foster, deceased. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 24, pages 71–72.]
