On 15 June 1801, Graves Burke was appointed administrator of the estate of Frances Banks, deceased. Graves Burke and John Jones acknowledge their bond in the penalty of $100. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 16, page 78.]

Graves was mentioned in the 1 February 1806 will of Mary Burke, who appointed him her executor. “… I Give and bequeath to my beloved neice Lucey Burke Wife to Graves Burke, one negro Woman named Hannah and her increase to her and her heirs for ever, Also one Bed and furniture one Chest and one trunk 2nd I Give to Ann Burke daughter to Graves Burk and Lucy his Wife, one negro man named Phill, to her and her heirs for ever …” [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 17, page 92.]

This Indenture made this 20th day of February in the year of our lord one thousand eight hundred and nine Between Graves Burke of the Parish of southfarnham and County of Essex of the one part and William Fleet of the parish of St Stephens and County of King & Queen of the other part Witnesseth that the said Graves Burke for and in consideration of the sum of Eighty four dollars to him in hand paid by Thomas Wood senior of the use and benefit of William Fleet and for the further sum of eighteen dollars paid by the said William Fleet before the sealing and delivery of these presents, the receipt of which he the said Graves Burke doth hereby acknowledge, hath granted bargained sold aliened enfeoffred released, and confirmed and by these presents doth bargain, sell, alien, infeofe release and confirm unto the said William Fleet his heirs and assigns; all that piece or parcel of land in the possession of the said Fleet situated in the parish of Southfarnham and County of Essex estimated to contain seventeen acres be the same more or less, and is part of the tenement tract or parcel of land sold and conveyed by George W. Banks and his wife to the said Fleet by deed dated the 1st day of January 1808 and recorded in Essex County Court, and which was the same tract of land sold and conveyed by Thomas Wood Junior to the said Banks, and is also a part of the land which was sold and conveyed to the said Burke by Joseph Wood by deed dated the 19th day of January 1807 and recorded in Essex County Court, which tracts sold by the said Banks to the said Fleet, and by the said Joseph Wood to the said Burke, situated and adjoining to each other, and which said land hereby intended to be conveyed to the said Fleet is bounded (as between the land now in the possession of the said Burke or his tenant and the said land intended to be conveyed as follows) to wit begining in a branch now called James Croxtons spring branch a corner to the land of the said Croxton who is now dead, & is stated to have been formerly a beach stump, thence along the line of the said Croxton to the main road leading from Dunkirk to Tappahannock, and untill it gets opposite to the mouth of a lane leading from the said road to Major Boughan’s mill which Mill is situated on the main stream of Piscattaway creek above the bridge, thence along the said lane to a cedar, and after the line proceeds from the said cedar, the land hereby intended to be conveyed is bounded altogether by the land of the said Fleet conveyed to him by the said Banks as aforementioned, and the hereby intended to be conveyed is all the land conveyed by the said Joseph Wood to the said Burke on the west side of the lane, to have & to hold to the said Fleet his heirs and assigns forever… Signed Graves Burke. Graves Burke was mentioned in the 26 March 1824 will of his son-in-law Tandy Dix, proved 21 June 1824, and was named an executor. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 20, pages 58–59; Essex County, Virginia, Box Chancery No. 36, item 36-B-63.]

On 21 June 1824, Graves Burke, Ephraim Beazley, John Crow and Moses Crow were bound in the penalty of $14,000 for Graves Burke’s execution of the last will and testament of Tandy Dix, deceased. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 20, page 59.]

On 17 July 1826, Thomas Wright Jr., Geo: Wright, James Allen Jr., John Burke and James Wright were bound in the penalty of $20,000 for Thomas Wright’s administration de bonis non of the estate of Graves Burke. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 20, page 414.]

On 14 November 1826, an inventory and appraisal of the estate of Graves Burke, deceased, was made by John Jones, James Semple, and Thos Hoskins. Ordered recorded 15 June 1829. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 21, pages 381–386.]

On 14 and 15 December 1826, sales of the estate of Graves Burke, deceased, were made. William Burke was by far the largest purchaser. Ordered recorded 15 June 1829. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 21, pages 386–393.]

The estate of Graves Burke, deceased, in account with Thomas Wright Jr., administrator, from 1826 to 1827 was settled on 17 December 1827 by H: W: Latane and Was H Purkins. Includes “paid John Burke for sundry articles of mourning furnished family”, “recd of Wm. Burke for monies collected from the Tavern since decds death”. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 21, pages 214–218.]

The estate of Graves Burke, deceased, in account with Thomas Wright, Jr., administrator, from 1827 to 1831 was ordered recorded 18 April 1831. Includes “To this sum paid Wm Burke for balance of Board of Lucinda, Juliet, Richard James & Mary Burke after deducting rents therefrom…” [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 22, pages 243–248.]
