The will of Erasmus Jones was dated 5 March 1807. Loving wife Frances. Daughter Ann Fisher. Granddaughter Elizabeth Barton, not yet 21. Daughter Rebecca Spindle. Son John Jones. Signed Erasmus Jones. Witnesses: James Clarkson, Micajah Munday, Richard Clarkson, Sthreshly Rennolds. Codicil dated 12 August 1808 states that daughter Rebecca is dead, her legacy to go her children. Codicil witnessed by Sthreshly Rennolds, Geo. P. Keesee, Micajah Munday, Thomas Brockenbrough. Proved on 21 October 1811. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 17, pages 313–316.]
On 21 October 1811, John Jones, Wm. Fisher and Barbee Spindle were bound in the penalty of $70,000 for John Jones’s execution of the last will and testament of Erasmus Jones, deceased. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 17, pages 320–321.]
On 18 November 1811, an inventory and appraisal of the estate of Erasmus Jones, deceased, was made by Sthreshly Rennolds, Micajah Munday, Archiband Ritchie, Warner Lewis, and Charles T. Southall, and was ordered recorded on 18 November 1811. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 17, pages 322–324.]
On 26 December 1815, a division of the slaves bequeathed by the will of Erasmus Jones to the children of Barbee Spindle was made by Thomas Pitts, George W. Lee and Parmenas Pilkenton, with Lot #1 to Frances J. Spindle, Lot #2 to Martha Spindle, and Lot #3 to Walter Bowie. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 18, page 242.]
