On 29 November 1814, the land of Vincent Gordon was surveyed and divided into nine lots of equal quality, with Lot 1 to Lewis Coleman, Lot 2 to James Coleman, Lot 3 to Thomas Coleman, Lot 4 to Lucy Coleman, Lot 5 to William Coleman, Lot 6 to John Coleman, Lot 7 to Anna Coleman, Lot 8 to Patsey Coleman, and Lot 9 to John Shearwood. On 20 April 1818, John Shearwood and Susanna his wife, Patty Coleman, and Anna Coleman, all of the County of Essex, sold to Thomas L. Latané of the same. For $878, a tract of land lying in Essex County “being that part of the land of which Vincent Coleman died seized and possessed which was allotted to his five children, William, Thomas, John, Patty and Anna Coleman, and distinguished in said allotment Nos. 3. 5. 6. 7. 8”. Signed John Shearwood, Susanna her + mark Shearwood, Patty her + mark Coleman, Anna her + mark Coleman. Witnesses: H. W. Latané, W Lewis, Ben. H Munday, Sthreshly Rennolds. On 11 August 1818, Susanna Shearwood acknoweldged the same to be her act and deed. Ordered to be recorded on 17 August 1818. [Essex County, Virginia, Deed Book 39, pages 598–599.]
