The will of James Fisher of the county of Essex and parish of South Farnham was dated 9 February 1809. Estate both real and personal to wife Caty Fisher during her life. To son Isaac Fisher the tract of land whereon I now live and a piece of woodland bordering Zachariah Shackelford, and negro men Will and Randolph. A room in my dwelling house for daughter Polly Fisher so long as she shall live single. To son Greenwood Fisher my other plantation also one negro girl named Angella. To son Uriah Fisher one negro girl named Lucy to be left in the hands of my son Greewood [sic] for him if he should ever return here, this with what I have before given him will make him up his proportion of my estate. To daughter Polly negro named Rose. To daughter Rutha Cauthorn one negro named Tamsend. To daughters Rutha and Polly all other estate not mentioned. On 15 June 1812, Catharine Fisher and William Newbill were bound in the penalty of $6,000 for Catharine Fisher’s administration of the estate of James Fisher, deceased. Signed Catharine her x mark Fisher. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 17, pages 387–388.]
