On 14 January 1839, John Moore was baptised in Cloonclare Church of Ireland, County, Leitrim, son of Robert and Catherine Moore, address Gortnalibret. [Church of Ireland, Church Baptism Record.]

On 1 April 1861, John Moore married Catherine Pye in the Clooncare Church of Ireland parish/district, County Leitrim, Ireland. He was of Gortnalibert, son of Robert Moore; she was of Meeneymore, daughter of Lenon Pye; both of the Church of Ireland. [Church of Ireland, Church Marriage Record.]

On 18 May 1864, the ship Ironsides arrived in the Port of New York from Liverpool, England, carrying:

On 8 November 1866, John Perriman of the Town of Yonkers and County of Westchester and Mary his wife and Henry A Sims of the same place and Elizabeth his wife sold to John Moore. For $1,100, a parcel of land known as Lot 36 School Street as laid down on Map drawn by T C Cornell by order of the Board of Trustees of the Village of Yonkers November 1857. On 21 December 1867, John Moore of the town of Yonkers and County of Westchester and State of New York, and Catharine his wife, sold to Robert Moore of the same place. For $700 lawful money of the United States, a parcel in the Village of Yonkers in the town of Yonkers, County of Westchester and State of New York. Beginning on the Easterly side of School Street at a point distant one hundred twenty five feet southerly from the southwesterly corner of a lot of land belonging to the School District No two of the town of Yonkers and thence running at right angles with said School Street North eighty seven and one half degrees East one hundred feet, thence south two and one half degrees East twenty five feet to land belonging to Frederick Friend; thence south eighty seven and one half degrees west along the Northerly side of said Friends land one hundred feet to the Easterly side of School Street aforesaid and thence running along the Easterly side of said school street North two and one half degrees west twenty five feet to the place of beginning. The same being a portion of a lot No Thirty six school street as laid down on map [sic] drawn by T C Carroll by order of the Board of Trustees November 1857. With the appurtenances thereunto belonging. Signed John his x mark Moore, Catharine Moore. Witness: H H Taylor. On 21 December 1867, came John Moore and Catharine his wife before H H Taylor, Justice of the Peace, to acknowledge the same as their deed, and Catharine released dower rights. On 16 July 1869, an indenture was executed between Thomas Hill of the Village of Yonkers and County of Westchester and John Moore of the same. Whereas John Moore by Indenture of Mortgage of 8 November 1866 for the consideration therein mentioned did convey certain lands hereinafter described unto the said Thomas Hill, and whereas the said Hill at the request of the said Moore hath agreed to give up and surrender the lands hereinafter described unto Moore and to hold and retain the residue of the mortgaged lands as security for the money remaining due on the said mortgage, now this indenture. For $1 paid by Moore unto Hill, that part of the mortgaged lands being the southerly half of Lot Number 36 School Street. Signed Thomas Hill. On 21 July 1869 ordered to record. On 5 September 1874, Edward F. Brown of the City, County, and State of New York, and Eleanor his wife, sold to John Moore of the same. For $780, a parcel of land in the City of Yonkers Beginning at a point in the northerly line or side of the Palmer Road, distant four hundred feet five inches from the corner formed by the intersection of the said northerly line or side of the Palmer Road or Halliday Avenue with the westerly line or side of Fort Field Avenue, running thence northerly parallel with Fort Field Avenue two hundred and eleven feet six inches thence westerly at right angles to said Fort Field Avenue fifty feet, thence southerly and parallel with Fort Field Avenue two hundred and twenty feet eight inches to the Northerly line or side of the Palmer Road or Halliday Avenue thence easterly along the northerly line or side of the Palmer Road or Halliday Avenue fifty feet to the point or place of the beginning. On 28 March 1878, John Moore of the City, County, and State of New York, and Catherine his wife, sold to Edward F Brown of the same place Counsellor at law. For $4,200, all that certain lot of land in the City of Yonkers Beginning on the Easterly side of School Street at a point distant one hundred feet southerly from the Southwesterly corner of a lot of land belonging to School District number two of the town of Yonkers and thence running at right angles with School Street North eighty seven and one half degrees east one hundred feet thence south two and one half degrees east twenty five feet thence South eighty seven and one half degrees west one hundred feet to the Easterly side of School street aforesaid, and thence along the Easterly side of School street North two and one half degrees west twenty five feet to the place of beginning the same being the northerly one half part of lot number thirty six School street as laid down on a map drawn by T C Cornell by order of the board of Trustees of the Village of Yonkers November 1857 Being a part of the same premises conveyed to John Moore one of the parties of the first part hereto by deed dated 8th November 1866 and recorded in Liber 615 of Deeds page 314 in the office of the Register of Westchester County November 17, 1866. Subject nevertheless to a certain Mortgage made by John More [sic] & wife to George W Johnston for Eight hundred Dollars and recorded October 13th 1875 in Liber 675 of Mortgages page 38 on which there now remains due the sum of Four hundred Dollars and interest thereon from the first day April 1878. On 8 April 1878, Edward F Brown of the City, County, and State of New York, Councellor at law, and Eleanor his wife, sold to John Moore of the same. For one dollar and an exchange of property, Brown sells all those certain lots of land situate in the City of Yonkers and County of Westchester known on a certain map entitled “Map of the Foster Stone property known as Fort Field” in the City of Yonkers made by Cornell Bradford & Baldwin Civil Engineers dated July 1873 as numbered 39, 41, 43, 45, 47, 59, 61, 63, 65, and 67 and fronting on what is known on the said map as Halliday Avenue. On 6 January 1887, John Moore of the City of Yonkers and County of Westchester and Catherine his wife sold to George Young of the same. For $4,500, all those certain lots or parcels of land lying and being in the City of Yonkers described on a certain Map entitled Map of the Foster Stone Property Known as Fort Field in the City of Yonkers Westchester County N.Y. made by Cornell, Bradford and Baldwin Civil Engineers Yonkers N.Y. dated July 1873, as numbers 38, 41, 43, 45, 47, 49, 51, 53, 59, 61, 63, 65, and 67 and fronting on what is Known on said map as Halladay Avenue. Subject nevertheless to a certain Indenture of Mortgage made by John Moore and wife to — Johnson and and being given to secure the payment of the sum of $1,000 and interest which said Mortgage and the interest to grow due thereon from the date hereof the said party of the second hereby assumes. JOHN MOORE.
John Moore, 81, one of the oldest and highly respected citizens of Yonkers, passed away suddenly, Sunday afternoon, after an illness of only two days. He was born in Ireland. Coming to this country, he was a successful farmer near Yonkers; some years ago he retired, and since that time he had resided in this city. His wife, Catherine, passed away only about six weeks ago.
He leaves four children—Mrs. Daniel Hyde, James M. Moore, Henry D. Moore, and Miss Georgie Moore; 11 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren also survive him. He was a member of Dayspring Presbyterian Church.
Funeral Services were held at his late residence, 124 Oliver avenue, this afternoon. Interment, Oakland Cemetery.

John Moore, of Yonkers, died Sunday afternoon, after an illness of only two days. He was born in Ireland, 81 years ago. Coming to this country, he was a successful farmer near this city. He leaves four children, Mrs. Daniel Hyde, James M. Moore, Henry D. Moore, and Miss George Moore; 11 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren who survive him. He was a member of Dayspring Presbyterian church.
Funeral services were held at his late residence, 124 Oliver avenue yesterday. Interment took place in Oakland Cemetery.
