James was mentioned in the 16 September 1780 will of his father, John Nalle, proved 19 August 1782. “Item I give and bequeath to my Son James Nalle all my Land on the North side of Hughses River above my son Richard Nalles Land, my son Francis Nalle to Keep possession of the Land where he now lives till after my wife descease then to Return to my Son James Nalle and his Heirs for Ever … Item I lend unto my Loving Wife for and During her Natural life or Widowhood the Tract of Land and Plantation whereon I now live also all my Slaves not before Bequeathed and all my Stock and furniture of all Kinds also my Will and Desire is that all the Negroes and personal Estate after my Wifes Decease or Marriage be Equally devided amongst my Children Richard Nalle William Nall Francis Nalle James Nall Agatha Hill Mary Sims Gressel Parker Elizabeth Sims Ann Burke & Amie Morriss to them and their Heirs for Ever” [Culpeper County, Virginia, Mixed Records Volume B, pages 519–522.]
