In September or October 1708, an inventory of the estate of Daniel Brown was made by Richard his R mark Tyler, Jno Pickett, John his ff mark ffarison. Presented on the oath of Jane Brown, executrix, on 11 October 1708, and ordered recorded. [Essex County, Virginia, Deed Book 13, page 156–157.]

On 5 January 1715/16, an inventory and appraisal of the estate of Thomas Edmondson was made by Wm Covington, Richd Tiler and Benja ffisher. The inventory is very long, including slaves, a great deal of textiles, livestock, a silver headed cane, 80 books and 7 bibles. Ordered recorded 16 January 1716. On 20 March 1720/1721, Benjamin Mathews of Essex County sold to Richard Tyler of the same. For 2600 pounds of tobacco, 20 acres, part of the dividend of land whereon the said Benjamin Mathews now dwells…line of Samuel Perry…down the said branch to the main swamp…to the land of James Turner… Signed Benjamin Mathews. On 17 July 1722, an inventory of the estate of James Boughan was returned to court by Richard Tyler, John Fargeson and William Dunn, and signed by James Boughan, executor, and Sarah Boughan, executrix. Signed Richard his R mark Tyler. [Essex County, Virginia, Wills Book 3, pages 308–310.]

On 22 September 1724 Richard Tyler and Susanna his wife of South Farnham Parish sold 93 acres for 5 shillings to their daughter Mary the wife of James Boughan. [Essex County, Virginia, Deed Book 18, page 1.]

On 21 November 1727, Eliza Brown, Richd Tyler and Richd Bush were bound £500 sterling for Elizabeth Brown’s execution of the last will and testament of Joseph Brown. Signed Eliza her E mark Brown, Richd his R mark Tyler, Richd Bush. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 4, page 240.]

The will of Richard Tyler of Essex County was dated 4 December 1732. Weak. To beloved son Richard Tyler after the death of my beloved wife Susanna Tyler the plantation whereon I now live with all ye land belonging to me Between Piscataway Creek and the Road together with a peice I purchased lately adjoining to it. To beloved son Richard Tyler at the time of my wifes decease the best feather bed & furniture belonging to me. To said son Richard Tyler after my wifes decease a negroe man Named Will. To beloved son John Tyler the plantation whereon he now lives with all the land belonging to me on the South side of the swamp that divides ye land where he now lives and James Boughan’s land. To beloved son John Tyler a young negroe named Tony. To beloved son William Tyler all the land that I am possessed with on ye South side of the road by the line of James Boughan between the road and the aforesaid Swamp. To beloved daughter Mary Boughan a good suit of Cloaths at the Discretion of my beloved wife Susanna Tyler. To beloved daughter Susanna Tyler after my wife decease my great Looking Glass. I lend to my wife Susanna Tyler all ye rest of estate, after her decease to be Equally divided between beloved son William Tyler and beloved daughter Susanna Tyler. Beloved wife Susanna Tyler and beloved sons Richard Tyler and William Tyler to be Executrix and Executors. Signed Richard his R mark Tyler. On 21 May 1734, Richard Tyler, William Tyler and Abraham Montague were bound £1000 sterling for Richard Tyler and William Tyler’s execution of the will of Richard Tyler deceased. Signed Richd Tyler, Wm Tyler, Abrahm Mountague. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 5, pages 266–267.]

On 12 November 1747 James Boughan Jr. purchased 93 acres for £30 from Thomas Barker. This is land Thomas Barker had purchased from James and Mary Boughan, which was land that had been given by Richard Tyler to his daughter “now the wife of James Boughan Senr.” [Essex County, Virginia, Deed Book 24, page 200.]

On 28 April 1750, James Boughan of Essex County made an agreement with his brother Aristippus Boughan. In consideration of a right of reversion in issue of slave Hannah given by Richd Tyler in his last will and testament to Mary Boughan, mother of James and Aristippus. James has already sold some issue and now gives two of Hannah’s issue to Aristippus. Signed James Boughan, Aristippus Boughan. Witnesses: J Tyler, James Scott, Wm Crow. Recorded 15 May 1750.
