On 10 November 1698, Mary Carter, Jno Brooks, and Jno Shepherd were bound 40,000 pounds tobacco, as Mary Carter was appointed administratrix of the estate of Richard Carter, deceased. [Essex County, Virginia, Deed Book 9, page 290.]
On 10 April 1700, John Brooke, Tho Covington, and Henry Goare were bound 100 pounds sterling, as Jno Brooks was appointed administrator of the estate of Richd Carter deceased. Witness: Tho: Gregson. [Essex County, Virginia, Deed Book 10, page 30.]
On 2 March 1701, a guardian bond was taken out by Will Young, Wm Covington, and Henry Woodnot in the amount of 20 pounds sterling, as William Young was appointed guardian of Katherine Carter, orphan of Richard Carter deceased. [Essex County, Virginia, Deed Book 10, page 108.]
On 11 December 1703, John Waters, Henry Woodnot and John Webb of the County of Essex were bound the full and just sume of four thousand pounds of good Merchantable Tobacco. The condition of this obligation is such yt if the abovebound John Waters Guardian of Eliza. Carter Orphan of Richard Carter deced shall well and truly pay or cause to be paid unto the sd Orphan all such Estate and Estates as now is or hereafter shall come to the hands of the sd John Waters as soon as the sd Orphan shall attaine to awfull age then this obligation to be void.
