Barbee was mentioned in the 21 January 1803 will of his father, John Spindle, proved on 16 December 1805. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 16, pages 397–398.]

On 16 December 1805, Barbee Spindle, John Jones and William Fisher were bound in the penalty of $30,000 for Barbee Spindle’s executorship of the last will and testament of John Spindle deceased. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 16, page 399.]

On 21 July 1806, Barbee Spindle and Erasmus Jones were bound in the penalty of $10,000 for Barbee Spindle administration of the goods, chattels and credits of Philip Gray, deceased. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 16, pages 422–423.]

On 19 November 1832, Barbee Spindle and Richard Motley were bound in the penalty of $10,000. Barbee Spindle is appointed to collect and preserve the goods and chattels and credits of Silas B Spindle, deceased (during the Contest of the deposition of Mordecai L. Spindle and Wm Jones purporting the nuncupative Will of said Silas B Spindle decd). [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 23, page 9.]

The estate of Silas B. Spindle, deceased, in account with Barbee Spindle, administrator with the will annexed, from 1832 to 1834 was ordered recorded on 15 December 1834. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 23, pages 296–299.]

On 28 December 1833, Barbee Spindle witnessed the will of Fanny Spindle, and proved the will in court on 20 March 1837. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 24, page 106.]

On 17 October 1836, a certificate was granted Sally Spindle, the nominal executrix in the will of Mordecai Spindle, deceased, in order to her obtaining probate, she having entered into a bond of $70,000 with William F. Games, Barbee Spindle and Mordecai L Spindle her securities. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 23, page 306.]

On 17 October 1836, Sally Spindle, William F Games, Barbee Spindle and Mordecai L Spindle were bound in the penalty of $70,000 for Sally Spindle’s execution of the will of Mordecai Spindle, deceased. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 24, page 71.]

The estate of Silas B. Spindle, deceased, in account with Barbee Spindle, administrator, from 1835 to 1837 was ordered recorded on 19 June 1837. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 24, pages 132–133.]

The will of Barbee Spindle was dated 15 March 1838. I lend to wife Fanny Spindle that part of the plantation whereon I now reside, and Negroes Barnet[?], David, Robert, Joshua, Lewis, William, Daniel, Polly, Esther, Paul, Charity, Maria, Hariet, Rachael, Lucy, Celia, Milly, Maria Sr., Louisa, Ann, Wallace, Jane, Sally, Judith, Milly Sr., Esther Sr., Rose, Jane Jr., Courtney, Tenah[?], Marinda, John, and Climma[?], and additional property. Wife to hold estate for the support of herself and children, namely Barbee, Joseph and Elizabeth Spindle, and as they reach 21 she is to pay each $4,000. After her death, estate to be equally divided between children. Unto daughter Virginia Garnett the tract of land now in possession of her husband Thomas Garnett called the Dingen tract, and negroes Bob, Annetend[? microfilm copy not clear], Letty, Achilles, Robert, Lindsay, Lucy, Eliza, Anthony, Caroline, Martha, Mary & Chaney. To my two grand children, Philip and Marchella Spindle, the following property viz Ben, Morris, Anarchy[?], Anarchy Jr, Lucy, Polly, Susannah, Armstead Jr., James, William, Matilda, Thomas, Roy & Henry. The residue of estate to be sold, with money distributed among my children and grand children: to my daughter Frances Rennolds one seventh; to my daughter Virginia Garnett one seventh; to my son Barbee Spindle one seventh; to my son Joseph Spindle one seventh; to my daughter Elizabeth Spindle one seventh; and one seventh to be divided among my grand children Catharine Chowning, James Bowie, Philip Spindle, and Marcella Spindle, the remaining one seventh to be equally divided among my four grand Children Welton Spindle, Rebecca Spindle, John Spindle, and Archibald Spindle, to be held by Daniel Rennolds for the benefit of Welton, Rebecca, John and Archibald until they shall severally attain the age of eighteen years. My son-in-law Thomas Garnett to account for $1,900, and the said Philip & Marcella to receive $775 less than the seventh bequeathed them. If my children Barbee, Joseph and Elizabeth shall all die before lawful page, then I give their negroes to my wife. Sons in law Daniel Rennolds and Thomas Garnett to be executors. On 16 April 1838, Daniel Rennolds, Thomas B. Garnett, William Oliver, Muscoe Garnett Jr., Lewis Rennolds, Richard Motley, George T. F. Lanier, and Philip J. Rennolds were bound in the penalty of $65,000 for Daniel Rennolds’s and Thomas B. Garnett’s executorship of the estate of Barbee Spindle, deceased. On 24 July 1838, an inventory and appraisal of the estate of Barbee Spindle, deceased, was made by Willim. Blackburn, James Andrews, and John C Bentley.
