Philip Davis was mentioned, apparently as deceased, along with his children, Nancy Davis, Polly Davis, Fanny Davis, Patsy Davis, and Sally Davis, in the 23 September 1805 will of Philip’s father, Evan Davis, proved 21 October 1805. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 16, pages 384–385.]
The estate of Evan Davis, deceased, in account with Job Davis, executor, from 1807 to 1811 was ordered recorded on 18 May 1814, and included a report relating to a suit filed in chancery in which the children of Peter Davis were plaintiffs, “This Report relating to and filed in a wuit in Chancery depending in the said Court Danl. Schelling husband of Nancy Davis, Chaney Brizendine husband of Polly Davis, Samuel Williamson husband of Fanny Davis and others Plaintiffs and Sthreshly Rennolds Sheriff of Essex County committee of the Estate of Job Davis decd. who was exor of Evan Davis decd.” For Peter Davis’s share of the estate, equal distribution was made to the Daniel Shelling and wife, Chaney Brizendine and Polly his wife, Samuel Williamson and wife, Griffin Harper and wife, and to George Wiatt, guardian of Sally Davis. On 24 July 1833, Polly Brizendine widow of Chaney Brizendine complained that in 1829, Josiah Minter exor of Thomas Dennett decd commenced a suit against the personal representative, widow and heirs of the said Brizendine for debt. That the names Patsey and Polly were mixed up in the decree. [Essex County, Virginia, Box Chancery No. 47, item 47-E-7.]

In 1850 or 1851, orators and oratrices Zachariah Brizendine in his own right and as administrator of Polly Brizendine deceased, Wiley Brizendine, Catharine Brizendine and Frances Shepherd complained to the Chancery Court. That during the past year 1850, their mother Polly Brizendine died intestate leaving children the parties named (Frances being the widow of Smith Shepherd) and Mary Ann Brizendine wife of Temple Brizendine.
