On 21 August 1809, administration of the estate of Richard Banks Junr. was granted to Samuel Muse; James Jones, executor, is deceased. Samuel Muse and Lawrence Muse acknowledge their bond in the penalty of $12,000. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 15, page 12.]

On 22 January 1814, a division of the slaves belonging to the estate of Richard Banks, deceased, was made by Jno. Smith, Newman Brockenbrough, and W. Blake, to Elizabeth Banks, Polly Banks (also listed as Mary Banks), and Samuel Muse (who married Elizabeth Banks). On 29 January 1819, this was further acknowledged by Eliza S Banks and Wm L Waring. Samuel was mentioned in the 14 February 1815 will of his brother, James Muse Jr., proved on 17 July 1815. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 18, page 195.]

The estate of Richard Banks, deceased, in account with Samuel Muse from 1810 to 1819 was settled on 29 January 1819, with equal distributions to Saml. Muse, Eliza S. Banks, and Wm. L. Waring. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 19, pages 28–30.]

Samuel Muse was mentioned, as a co-executor, in the 22 November 1821 will of his mother-in-law, Elizabeth Smith Banks, proved 16 December 1822. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 19, pages 351–352.]

On 26 December 1822, Samuel Muse and William L. Waring agreed that Joseph Janey, William Smith and Kemp Gatewood were to value and divide the remaining property of Richard Banks, deceased, as they were the only two devisees in right of their wives, Mary Waring and Elizabeth Y. Muse. The division was returned to court on 18 August 1823. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 19, pages 390–391.]

In 1832, orators and oratrices Elizabeth Y. Muse wife of Samuel Muse, and Mary Augusta, Lucy Ann, Catharine E. C., and Caroline L. Muse, and yr orator Richard J. Muse and Samuel W. Y. Muse the sd Sml W. Y., Mary Augusta, Lucy Ann, Catharine E. C. and Caroline infants under 21 by Richard J. Muse their next friend complained that on 19 November 1825 William B. Matthews conveyed to one Lawrence Muse a variety of property in trust for the support of your orators and oratrices and the said Samuel Muse. In 1832 Lawrence Muse died, and no one has been authorized to oversee the said Samuel Muse in the management and disposition of the property. In an undated petition, orator James Ross complained that Laurence Muse was indebted to James Ross. Laurence Muse died on ___ 1832 intestate leaving a widow Martha Muse and the following persons to wit Saml Muse a brother Elizabeth Parker a sister Laurence Muse a son of another decd brother James Muse, Martha the wife of Octavius Harwer, William Muse, Samuel C. [O.?] Muse Mortimore Muse & Lucinda wife of Muscoe G Wood children of another decd brother Sally Spence wife of Edward Spence, Elizabeth Cox William R Sisson & Ann the wife of Henry Fauntelroy children of another decd sister and John Underwood & Richard Underwood infant grand children of the same sister and Ann Hungerford only child of a decd half sister his only heirs. [Essex County, Virginia, Box Chancery No. 46, item 46-D-9.]

On 7 July 1837, an inventory and appraisal of the estate of Henry Davis, deceased, was made by Reuben B Boughton, Brooks Boughton, and Saml Muse. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 24, page 366.]

On 23 August 1837, an inventory and appraisal of the estate of Edmund Cauthorn was made by Geo: T. F. Lorimer, Saml. Muse, and Andrew Hundley. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 24, pages 341–342.]

On 19 December 1837, an inventory and appraisal of the estate of Martha T. Cauthorn was made by Geo: T. Lorimer, Saml Muse, and Andrew Hundley. Includes Elizabeth, Anderson, Polly, Sally & her children, Martha & 3 children. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 24, pages 356–357.]

On 1 August 1838, an inventory and appraisal of the estate of Catharine Johnson was made by R J Muse, Samuel Muse, and A. S. Boughton. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 24, pages 370–371.]

In about 1848, orators and oratrice Samuel W. Y. Muse and Peter S. Trible and Lucy Ann his wife complained to the Chancery Court. That in ____ Samuel Muse conveyed in trust his estate to his brother Laurence Muse for the benefit of his family during the lifetime of himself and his wife. Laurence died and the court appointed Richard J. Muse trustee. Samuel and his wife are now dead, leaving six children to wit Richard J. Muse, Samuel W. Y. Muse, Lucy Ann Muse who married Peter S. Trible, Caroline Muse, Catherine Muse and Anna Muse the last three infants under the age of 21. [Essex County, Virginia, Box Chancery No. 41, item 41-F-32.]
