On 16 June 1755, Josiah Minter and Mary Minter witnessed a deed from Thomas Croxton and Susannah his wife to Samuel Croxton. [Essex County, Virginia, Deed Book 27, pages 115–119.]

On 15 October 1755, Josiah Minter witnessed a deed from John Smith to Daniel Stodghill. [Essex County, Virginia, Deed Book 27, pages 169–171.]

On 4 December 1755, Josias [sic] Minter cast votes for Mr. John Upshaw and Colonel Francis Smith for burgesses of Essex County. [Essex County, Virginia, Deed Book 27, pages 248–252.]

On 17 January 1757, Josiah Minter and Mary his wife of the County of Essex and Parish of Southfarnham leased to John Minter. Whereas John Minter late of the parish and county aforesaid deceased died seized of 200 acres in the county and parish aforesaid and bequeathed the land to nine of his children by will, Josiah Minter leases his share, 27-1/4 acres, for 5 shillings. A release was dated 18 January 1757 in the amount of £7.17.6. Witnesses: Thomas Barker, Ann her A mark Barker. Ordered recorded 21 June 1757. [Essex County, Virginia, Deed Book 27, pages 316–321.]

On 25 March 1761, Josiah Minter witnessed a lease from John Boughan and Cary his wife to James Edmondson. [Essex County, Virginia, Deed Book 29, pages 43–45.]

In 1782, Josiah Minter posted the following public service claim for Revolutionary War support: Josiah Minter 1 beef 300# £5-5. He is listed under “Acct. of Grass Beeves collected by Thos. Wood Commissioner of Essex County from Sept. 9, 1781” as “Minter, Josiah 1 £1-17-6.” He is listed under “Acct. of Fodder made use off for stalling of cattle in Essex County for the public use [all certificates were issued in 1781 and were redeemed in dollars” as “Josiah Minter 1950 bundles 585.” He is listed under “Acct. of Cattle collected by Thos. Wood Commissioner of Essex County and stall’d for the public use [all monies in dollars]” as “Minter, Josiah 1 1200.”

An inventory and appraisal of the estate of John Kercheval was made by John Baughan, Richd Allen and Josiah Minter. Total £245.12.2. Ordered recorded 21 February 1785. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 13, pages 475–476.]

On 10 December 1785, Josiah Minter’s peach orchard was mentioned a land bordering a tract sold by William Banks, James Banks and Statira his wife (whose name also appears as Stati Re) of the parish of southfarnham and County of Essex sold to Thomas Wood. Will of Josiah Minter of South Farnham Parish. To his son John Minter he leaves land and a Negro. To son Barker Minter he leaves land and a Negro. To his daughter Eliza. Minter he leaves a gray mare with saddle and bridle. To his grandson William Minter he leaves a bay mare. He leaves one shilling sterling to each of his daughters Mary Croxton and Susanna Cottrell. He also mentions daughters Rachel, Sarah, and Jail. He names his sons John and Barker his executors. Signed Josiah Minter, dated 15 June 1791. He is listed as the father of John Minter who married Ann Ryland in the Minter-Durham family Bible at the Virginia State Archives, Acc. 26856.
