“Samuel Irvin Moore of 417 [crossed out, and 509 interlined] East Maple passed away Thursday, Nov. 15, 1956, at 12:30 p.m. following a lingering illness, at the age of 88 years, ten months, and 14 days.
Born in Centerville, Iowa, Jan. 1, 1868, he was the son of Judge S. M. and Mary Jane Pendergast Moore. In early life, he attended Iowa Wesleyan College and the Elliott Business College at Burlington.
He was in the lumber business, was deputy county treasurer, and was later a mail carrier for 35 years, retiring in 1930. He was a member of the Methodist Church and the Modern Woodman Lodge.
He was married to Lida Stone, who survives, along with three children, Mrs. Cecil Klepfer of Centerville; Dillon Moore of Kansas City, Mo., and Rex Moore of Aurora, Ill.; one grandson, Larry S. Klepfer of Des Moines, and two great grandchildren, Tommy and Marjorie Klepfer of Des Moines. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Mrs. Alice Lane, and three brothers, William, Charles, and Addison Moore.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, 2 p.m., from the Johnson Funeral Home, with Dr. G. S. Bruland officiating. Burial will be in the Oakland Cemetery.” [Unmarked newspaper clipping.]
