Sarah Gatewood was mentioned in the will of her father John Gatewood, dated 14 November 1706. She is listed as being one of the three youngest children and received a portion of the estate. [Essex County, Virginia, Deed Book 12, page 328.]

Sarah Farguson received a bequest in the 20 September 1720 will of her stepfather Joseph Baker. She was mentioned but not named, being one of the children of Joseph’s wife Amy. Sarah was to receive a gold ring of the value and cost of twenty shillings. The will was proved on 15 November 1720. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 3, pages 220–223.]
Sarah Gatewood was mentioned in the 1744 will of her mother Amy Baker as Sarah Farguson. Sarah received some of her mother’s clothes and some residual property. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 7, pages 335–337.]
On 22 March 1748/9, a case was continued in court of John Gatewood, Henry Gatewood, John Farguson and Sarah his wife which Sarah is a Daughter and Legatee of Amy Baker deceased, Thomas Arnold and Frans his wife which said Frans is a Daughter and Legatee of Amy Baker decd, David Scott and Amy his wife which said Amy is one of the Daugthers and Legatees of Amy Baker decd, against Thomas Gatewood and James Gatewood Executors of Amy Baker decd. It was ordered that Thos Edmondson Thomas Wiatt James Jones William Roane Gentlemen or any three of them settle the defendants accounts of administration of the estate of Amy Baker deceased and make report to next court. Sarah Farguson was mentioned in the 22 April 1769 will of her husband John Farguson. She was lend all estate during her widowhood and was named a executrix with Joseph Burnett and Thomas Ryland executors. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 12, pages 82–83.]
