Margaret Gordon was mentioned in the 19 August 1767 will of her father William Gordon. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 12, pages 401–402.]

In an undated petition, Barker Minter and Margaret his wife complained of Thomas Dobbins and Phebe his wife, which Phebe is administratrix of the estate of Thomas Gordon deceased. Thomas Gordon was an executor of William Gordon deceased. William Gordon had bequeathed to his daughter Margaret Gordon a slave named Bob. Margaret has now married Barker Minter. Thomas had loaned out the slave Bob. Barker Minter and Margaret his wife seek payment from Dobbins. Barker Minter and Margaret were married before 1784; Thomas Gordon died before October 1784. [Essex County, Virginia, Box Chancery No. 3, item 3-G-122.]

On 12 September 1789, Phebe Dobbins made a deposition in the case of Rachel Gordon vs Barker Minter &c.: Your deponent Phebe Dobbins, wife of Thomas Dobbins. That “William Gordon Father to her deceased Husband died in the latter End of the year 1767, at which time Peggie Gordon Wife to the said Barker Minter, was living with her Mother Elizabeth Gordon, which she did, till May 1773, when Elizabeth Gordon died…” That her former husband was Thomas Gordon. That John Gordon died four years after the death of Elizabeth Gordon. Signed Phebe her + mark Dobbins. [Essex County, Virginia, Box Chancery No. 6, item 6-E-103.]
