William was mentioned in the 27 June 1798 will of his grandmother, Mary Gatewood, proved 21 January 1799. “…one fourth part to be divided equally between my Grand Children Wm. Fisher and Suckey Crittenden…Item I give to my grand Son Wm. Fisher my large walnut Table and my Sorrel horse colt…” [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 15, page 436.]

On 21 January 1799, William Fisher and Benjamin Fisher were granted executorship of the estate of Mary Gatewood. William Fisher, Benjamin Fisher, and John Jones acknowledge their bond in the penalty of $2,000. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 15, page 436.]

William was mentioned in the 30 March 1799 will of his father, Benjamin Fisher, proved on 15 April 1799. “…I give to my son William Fisher another third, of all my lands including the remnant of the tract already-mentioned, & that so much as the said remnant my be dificient of one third of my whole lands, be made up to him out of my quarter lands to him & his heirs forever … Item I lend to my said Wife during her life the following Slaves to wit old Dick, young Dick, Islington, Uriah, Sam & Nancy & after her death I give the said Negroes & their Increase to be equally divided betwen [sic] my son William Fisher & my said daughter Suky Crittenden, to them & their heirs forever … Item I lend to my sd. Wife one half of the negro’s which I got by her (except those now in possession of John Jones) to wit Zachariah, Bookery, Tom, Rody, & Mary during her life and after her death I give the said negro’s with their increase to my said daughter Sally Jones & her Heirs forever I also give to my said daughter the remaining half that I got [from] my Wife, together with the above mentioned five negro’s declared to be in the possession of the said John Jones to her & her Heirs forever … Item I give to my son William Fisher Abraham, Nanny Charlotte, Jerry, & Abraham which he hath now in his possession to him & his Heirs forever … Item I lend to my wife my Household and Kitchen furniture, plantation Utensils, one half of my Cattle, sheep & Hogs, with all my Horses (except my four Waggon Horses) & also Except one Bed & furniture to be hereafter given) during her natural life & after her death to be sold together with my black smiths tools & the money arising from the sale thereof to be equally divided between my said three children or their Heirs … I desire that the remaining half of my stocks not disposed of by this Will my Waggon & four waggon Horses, be sold & the money arising from the sale thereof after paying my Just debts & funeral expences to be equally divided between my above mentioned three children I lend to my wife during her life my black smith’s tools & desire that my three children may have their Smiths work done during her said life Gratis. Lastly I appoint my son William Fisher & sons in Law Lemuel Crittenden & John Jones Exrs. of this my last Will & Testament…” On 15 Apil 1799 presented in court by William Fisher and proved by the oaths of Wm B Sale & Erasmus Jones, and ordered to be recorded. Certificate granted to the said William in order to his obtaining probate. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 15, pages 453–454.]

On 15 April 1799, executorship of the estate of Benjamin Fisher, deceased, was granted to William Fisher. William Fisher and Erasmus Jones acknowledge their bond in the penalty of 12,000. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 15, page 457.]

On 11 November 1806, Captain William Fisher aged 43 years made a deposition at the Diamond Meeting House in Essex County, Virginia. [Caroline County, Virginia, Court Records 1742–1833 and Marriages 1787–1810 by William Lindsay Hopkins, Richmond, Virginia 1990, page 107.]

On 17 May 1809, John Jones and William Fisher were bound in the penalty of $3,000 for John Jones’s administration of the good, chattels and credits of John Burke, deceased. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 17, page 125.]

The estate of John Fogg Junr deceased in account with Ben: H Munday administrator from 1802 to 1810 [sic] was settled on 16 December 1809 by J: Sale, W. Fisher, W: J: Sale. Ordered recorded 17 June 1811. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 17, page 288.]

On 16 April 1816, Jones Jones and William Fisher were bound $5,000 for John Jones’s executorship of the estate of Major J B Turner. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 18, page 277.]

The estate of William Edmondson deceased in account with Thos M. Henley for the year 1817 was settled by Richd Motley, L. C. Gatewood, Walter Bowie, and a W. Fisher. Recorded 19 August 1822. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 19, pages 322–323.]

This 18th day of May 1824, I make this my last will, my desire is that all my just debts be paid —
I give to my daughter Sukey Motley all the property bouth real & personall that she has in her possession also my part of the mill & following negroes Charlotte, Jery[?], Sukey, George the miler, Hannah Jerry{?] son of George & Hannah & all there furture increas —
I give to my daughter Rebecca Munday all the property she has now in her possession also the following negroes Charles at piggon hill, little George (son of George & Hannah) Delphia, Menly{?], William, & Robert & all there future increas —
I give to my son William Fisher the plantation he lives on & all the other property he has in his possession except Charles & John, I also give him workman Sam, old Milly, & long Sam with all future increas from the negroes he has in his possession —
I give to my son Josiah Waller Fisher the plantation I live on also the following negroes & there future increas Moose[?], Abream, Aaron, Annica, Scholena, John, Fanny, Henry (son of George & Hannah) Bowin[?] Caroline, I also give him the still, one bed & furniture, [illegible] mare, young bay mare [illegible], one cart & 1 young yoake of oxen six sheep three cows & one fourth of the hogs on this plantation —
I give to my Grandson Henry Fisher the following negroes, Eve, Mark & John at pigginhill with the future increas
I give to my Grandson John Fisher the following negroes Maderson Louisa & Pembrooke with the future increas —
I give to my Grandson Benjamin Fisher the following negroes Paidro, Daniel, Janey daughter of George & Hannah, should either my three grandsons die before the become of age, the part given is to be divided between the other two
My four children named in this will to wit Sukey, Rebecca, William & Waller are all to give there mother forty dollars a pease yearly as long as she lives, she must have gigg & horse, & bed & furniture should she want them—, all the rest of my estate not named in this will I wish sold to help pay my debts should it be insufficient then my will is that my four children Sukey, Rebecca, William & Waller may pay equally untill all just debts are paid of lastly I appoint my executors Richard Motley, Benja H Munday jr., William Fisher & Josiah Waller Fisher —

On 17 January 1825, this writing purporting to be the last will and testament of William Fisher was brought into court by Richard Motley one of the nominal executors, and handwriting was proved by Thomas Gresham and George Wright. A certificate of probate granted to Richard Motley, William Fisher and Benjamin H. Munday jr.

On 17 January 1825, Richard Motley, Benjamin H. Munday Jr., William Fisher, Benjamin H. Munday, Sr., and Edmund F. Noel were bound in the penalty of $20,000 for the joint executorship of Richard Motley, Benjamin H. Munday Jr., and William Fisher on the estate of William Fisher, deceased.
